Ever walk the steep hilly streets of L.A. wearing worn-out old cowboy boots?  It ain't easy if you're a worn-out old cowboy.

"Git along little dogie, it's your misfortune," said the friend who got me there.

Then he took me to a restaurant where some slick got in my face about wearing a hat.

"Rule of the house ---you've got to check it when you come in," he said, and snatched the hat out of my hand.

"Wait a minute!  You're not taking MY property and making me pay to get it back!"

"Then maybe you'd better leave," he said.

"Maybe I'd better," I answered, and took back my hat and walked out.

And missed a good dinner, I'm sure, but had a better one where I didn't feel like a fish out of water:

at Kate's place in Tombstone

. . where I met the Clantons

General Custer

and Chief Crazy Horse

That's Clayton Moore

and John Hart signing autographs

and Wild Bill & Company
